A motivated Pisgah boys cross country team turned in a strong finish on Saturday.
Pisgah finished third in the Boys Small School (Class 1A-4A) 5K races at the Lake Guntersville Invitational.
The Pisgah boys closed with 73 points, 18 points back of champion DAR and six back of runner-up Ashville.
“Every boy had a season best and Tristan Little had a PR (personal-record),” said Pisgah head coach Gus Hembree. “We were disappointed in our times at the Scottsboro Invitational (last week) and felt like we had something to prove at Guntersville. This may have been the most complete race my boys have run this season.”
Little led the Pisgah effort with a fifth-place finish (18:15.93). Tanner Baine finished 10th (18:31.96) while Zac Cornelison was 13th (19:25.26), Trey Barrentine 22nd (20:12.85), Austin Wilson 27th (20:26.42), Jake Smith 34th (20:59.79), Bob Johnson 38th (21:11.26), Bryant Overdear 49th (22:05.43), Holden Goff (23:19.01), Austin Mabry 95th (26:00.37), Bailey Johnson (27:21.97) and Alex Elizondo (30:25.31).
The Pisgah girls finished 10th in the varsity girls race, which was not divided into small/large school divisions.
Rhylee Bell finished 46th (24:23.85) for the Eagles while Serenity Olinger was 63rd (25:27.69), Kaylea Griffis 64th (25:31.96), Jazimine Wilson 66th (25:44.50 – PR), Briley Hembree 67th (25:49.81), Kaylynn Morgan 70th (26:10.13), Lauren Peek 75th (26:25.76) and Ally Darwin 76th (26:28.41).
“My girls did a great job overall of pack running,” Hembree said. “We are starting to get healthy for the back stretch of the season.
North Sand Mountain — NSM’s boys posted a fourth-place finish at the Lake Guntersville Invitational’s Small School Race with 115 points.
Jayden Culpepper (18:19.54) and Lane Gamble (18:29.52) finished sixth and eighth respectively to lead the Bison effort. Josue Luna finished 28th (20:28.74) while Jorge Luna was 25th (21:01.45), Fernando Luna 48th (21:59.79), Jonah Slay 77th (24:19.45) and Jack Case 90th (25:26.58).
Skyline — The Vikings finished ninth with 210 points in the boys small school race at the Lake Guntersville Invitational.
Nathan Olinger led Skyline with a 40th-place finish (21:18.80) while Trever Saint was 43rd (21:29.54), Bryant Kennamer 44th (21:35.53), JT Hastings 51st (22:08.20), Tristan Roach 61st (23:02.09), Karson Treece 86th (25:04.34) and Scott York 96th (26:06.42).
Running as individuals in the girls race, Katie Roach finished 72nd (26:10.35) while Gracie Putman was 136th (32:29.71), Joslyn Boatwright 146th (33:47.02) and Kayla Skipper 159th (41:46.02).
