• The Jackson County Community Cleanup Truck will be at Hytop Park in Hytop, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. No paint, tires, batteries, brush or household trash will be accepted.

• The Jackson County Sparkle and Shine location will be at Section Park in Section. No paint, tires, batteries, brush or household trash will be accepted.

• Hollywood Fire and Rescue will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast, from 6-10 a.m., at the Hollywood Park Community Center. The cost is $7 per plate.

• The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6073 will have their May and June meetings on the first Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. This change is to test the interest of the membership to hold monthly meetings on a Saturday in lieu of third Tuesday nights. All members are encouraged to attend. Installation of newly elected post officers will be held. Lunch will follow the meeting at a local restaurant. Auxiliary will not be meeting. • The Jackson County Cruisers will have their Cruise-In at the back parking lot of 50 Taters Restaurant, beginning at 5 p.m. Be sure to register your car for the three $100 giveaways and a chance to win the grand prize on Oct. 7. • The Scottsboro High School Marching Band will host its second annual Band-On-The-Run, beginning at 9 a.m. Check in for the 5K run will be from 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. with the run starting at 9 a.m. The fun run begins at 10:30 a.m. and awards will be at 11 a.m. Entry fees include $25 for 5K, $20 for 5K students and $15 for Fun Run. • All military veterans in Jackson County are invited and encouraged to attend a monthly luncheon held every second Wednesday of each month at Western Sizzlin, starting at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon is a Dutch treat. • Come out and enjoy an exciting experience with a variety of raptors at Russell Cave, beginning at 2 p.m. John and Dale Stokes educate the public on the importance of these raptors, one of nature’s most remarkable creatures. Bring your chair or blanket to sit in the ground and enjoy this program of remarkable birds. This is a free program.

TUESDAY, MAY 16

• The Jackson County Education Retirees Association Luncheon meeting will be at Carlile’s Restaurant in Scottsboro. The meal will be selected from the buffet bar from 11 a.m. until noon with selections from the hot food bar and salad bar. The cost is $12 including drink, tax and tip. Laura Fincher, agency and community relations manager for the Food Bank of North Alabama, is scheduled to be the guest speaker. Her topic will be “Your Food Bank and Its Impact.” Remember to bring a canned food item to the meeting for our food project.

• The Scottsboro Family Life Center and Jackson County Drug Court in Scottsboro will host the 6th Annual Freedom Celebration Cookout, beginning at noon on the courthouse square lawn. There will be BBQ, all the fixings, watermelon and ice cream. The Cumberland Mountain Boys will provide music. It is all free of charge. Everyone is welcome.
