In today’s Sentinel I started the annual high school football schedule analysis series. For the next six weeks we’ll look at each local team’s 2019 schedule and all the facts, factors, history and possibilities that lie within.

One thing currently not on the schedule of any of the local teams is a Thursday night game. Throwing out all the factors and the fact that it would mean teams playing multiple Thursday games, if I were allowed to pick a game for a Thursday each week of the season – excluding Week 0 when there is only one game (Woodville at Waterloo) — here’s what the 2019 weekly slate would look like:

› Week 1: Pisgah at Woodville — A little history will be made as Pisgah becomes the second fellow Jackson County team to play at Woodville's Frazier Field. The teams met for the first time ever last season.

› Week 2: NSM at Collinsville —A pivotal Class 2A Region 8 game right out of the gate.

› Week 3: Section at Ider — The rivals are known to play hard-nose, hard-hitting games, the type befitting of a Thursday night grudge match.

› Week 4: SJPII at North Jackson — Two teams that figure to contend for the Class 4A Region 7 title matching up on a Thursday would be a nice draw.

› Week 5: North Jackson at Scottsboro — The Battle of the Valley draws already more fans than any game in the county every season. Imagine the size of the crowd if it were the only game around.

› Week 6: Pisgah at Geraldine — This game could be a matchup of region title contenders in Class 3A Region 7. They’d come from far and wide across Sand Mountain to see this one.

› Week 7: Arab at Scottsboro — There’s never a lack of  intensity when these bitter rivals face off. It’s always hard fought and fun to watch.

› Week 8: NSM at Fyffe —NSM would face the defending 2A state champ with a chance to make a statement in front of a Thursday night crowd.

› Week 9: Plainview at Pisgah — A big crowd would turn out to see if Pisgah could make it two in a row over the Bears.

› Week 10: Woodville at Section — This game has been wild and wildly entertaining the last three seasons. Thursday night fun for sure.
