The hydrogen economy and renewable energy resources are available and in the process of large scale development across the globe. Hydrogen is the fuel of our future. Unfortunately, the U.S. is seriously lagging behind other nations due to the corporate influences of those in our government who receive money from the coal, oil and nuclear power industries.
This story was published in the Mooresville, N.C. Tribune last week as an op-ed article and on a blog titled Hydrogen Cars and Vehicles. "China: Choosing hydrail?" - "Last month, when China’s Jade Rabbit lunar explorer touched down on the moon, it may have given the world a hint about (China’s] railroad vision…China didn’t replicate the American Apollo project; rather, they flew it into the 21st century... Annually, the Mooresville South Iredell Chamber of Commerce, the University of North Carolina at Boone and colleagues around the world convene a conference of the universities, governments and companies working on “hydrail” — hydrogen fuel cell railway propulsion...While the US is beginning to replace dirty diesel trains with less dirty natural gas upgrades, China is positioned to power rail traction with wind, hydroelectricity and solar energy, converted to hydrogen and carried onboard at a fraction of the cost of overhead wires." http://www.hydrogencarsnow.com
Politics and History
A speech by Teddy Roosevelt, Louisville, Ky., April 1912: "Every man who, directly or indirectly, upholds privilege and favors the special interests, whether he acts from evil motives or merely because he is puzzle-headed or dull of mental vision or lacking in social sympathy, or whether he simply lacks interest in the subject, is a reactionary.”
“The Republican party is now facing a great crisis. It is to decide whether it will be, as in the days of Lincoln, the party of the plain people, the party of progress, the party of social and industrial justice; or whether it will be the party of privilege and of special interests, the heir to those who were Lincoln’s most bitter opponents, the party that represents the great interests within and without Wall Street which desire through their control over the servants of the pubic to be kept immune from punishment when they do wrong and to be given privileges to which they are not entitled… We say, in the words of Lincoln, that we must prevent wrong “being done either by Congress or courts. The people of these United States are rightful masters of both Congress and courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who prevent the Constitution.”
The same problems we have with corporate special interests today were apparent 100 years ago. This is the question which you the citizen must answer: What will it be, progress in the 21st century with a hydrogen economy or a revival of that which stands to destroy us all represented by coal, oil and nuclear power for the sole purpose of enrichment of the few in an antiquated Corporate States of America?
