The North Jackson varsity girls basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to take a big step forward in Class 4A Area 14 play.

The visiting Chiefs outscored area rival DAR 24-9 in the fourth quarter to sweep the teams’ regular-season area series Tuesday night in Grant.

North Jackson (13-5, 2-0), which has won eight straight games and 13 of its last 14, can lock up the regular-season title and the right to host next month’s area tournament by sweeping Randolph or by splitting with Randolph and having Randolph lose one of its two remaining games against DAR.

The Chiefs struggled offensively for three quarters Tuesday night, trailing 8-4 after one quarter and 12-7 at halftime before tying the game at 22-all after three quarters.

Sarah Morgan scored nine of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter for the Chiefs, who made 11 of 14 foul shots during the frame. Alexis Moore and Summer Varnum closed with 10 points for North Jackson while Hadley Burnette added five and Delana Pierce had four. Brianna Bolt and Tori Nickell scored nine points each and Ivy Carmack added eight for DAR (7-10, 0-2). 

Skyline 63, Gaylesville 19 — At Gaylesville, the No. 2-ranked Vikings clinched the Class 1A Area 14 regular-season championship and the right to host next month’s area tournament.

Skyline (16-2, 4-0) led 21-6, 44-11 and 55-16 at the quarter breaks.

Aidan Bellomy scored 16 points and Bailee Usrey had 15 for Skyline, which also got eight from Kenzi Manning, seven each from Gracie Stucky and Autumn Keaton, five from Brinlee Potts and four from Alli McAllister. Kambree Reed had eight points and Peyton Bright had six for Gaylesville (2-13, 1-4). 

Pisgah 75, Geraldine 41 — At Geraldine, No. 1-ranked Pisgah stormed past the home team to clinch the Class 3A Area 15 regular-season title and the right to host next month’s area tournament.

Pisgah (18-1, 5-0) led 22-15 after one quarter before stretching its lead to 43-24 at halftime and 70-35 after three quarters.

Molly Heard had 20 points, three assists and five steals for the Eagles while Chloe Womack had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Kallie Tinker added 13 points and Kennedy Barron netted eight while Madison Myers had eight points, three assists and five rebounds and Layla Hatfield had six points and three steals. Gracey Johnson scored 19 points for Geraldine (5-13, 0-5).

Woodville 41, Athens Bible 21 — At Woodville, the Panthers outscored Athens Bible 16-5 in the second quarter to take control on the way to the victory Tuesday night.

Woodville (5-12) trailed 6-5 after one quarter but led 21-11 at halftime and 30-13 after three quarters.

Jessica Sirten scored 13 points for Woodville while Tia Edwards and Courtney Williams both had 10 and Lizzie Torres had five. Molly Chumbley scored nine points for Athens Bible (4-9).

Ider 60, Section 48 — At Section, the Lions fell to Class 2A No. 7-ranked Ider in Class 2A Area 15 play Tuesday night.

Section (10-9, 1-3) trailed 11-4, 26-11 and 43-32 at the quarter breaks.

Haley Smart scored 15 points and Jennifer Vega netted 11 for Section while Madison Armstrong and Savannah White had 10 each. Kaleigh Carson scored a game-high 17 points for Ider (16-3), which also got 15 from Gracie Flynn and 10 from Alayna Chapman.

Albertville 46, Scottsboro 33 — At Albertville, the Aggies posted their third win of the season over the Wildcats.

Scottsboro (10-9) trailed 17-12, 32-17 and 43-21 at the quarter stops.

Lexie Bennett led the Wildcats with 13 points while Olivia Tubbs had eight and Allie Scott and Kami Willis had five each. Savannah Rutledge scored 15 points and Savannah Rutledge netted 13 for Albertville (15-2).

Fyffe 64, NSM 29 — At Higdon, North Sand Mountain fell to Class 2A No. 8-ranked Fyffe in Class 2A Area 15 play Tuesday night.

NSM (1-10, 0-4) trailed 16-7, 39-15 and 48-27 at the quarter breaks.

Jasmine Higdon led NSM with six points while Kolbie Bobo, Nady Poore and Candice Rimas had five points each and Madison Croft and Jesse Weldon had four each. Marie Woodall scored 18 points for Fyffe (13-4, 3-1) while Madison Myers and Maggie Woodall added 12 each and Alexis Barber had 10.


Skyline 49, Appalachian 41 — At Appalachian, Class 1A No. 2-ranked Skyline picked up a road win in Blount County against a fellow 1A team. 

Skyline led 21-5, 32-19 and 44-34 at the quarter breaks.

Bailee Usrey scored 15 points and Gracie Stucky added 12 for the Vikings, who also got five each from Aidan Bellomy and Blakely Stucky, four each from Kenzi Manning and Alli McAllister and three from Morgan Sanders.

Anna Dean and Ashley Whittington scored eight points each for Appalachian (7-7).

Gaylesville 47, Woodville 39 — At Gaylesville, the Trojans avenged an earlier Class 1A Area 15 loss to Woodville with the win.

Woodville defeated Gaylesville 39-34 back on Dec. 13.

Monday’s rematch was tied at 11 after one quarter, but Woodville (4-12, 1-2) trailed 22-18 at halftime and 34-29 after three quarters.

Tia Edwards led the Panthers with 15 points while Courtney Williams had eight and Jessica Sirten and Kayla Thompson had six each. Kambree Reed scored 30 points for Gaylesville (2-12, 1-3).
