For the past seven years, members of First United Methodist Church of Scottsboro have gathered in front of each school in Scottsboro for the ‘Blessing of the Schools’ before the start of a new school year.

“Pastor Steve Screws has visited each of the Scottsboro City Schools before school starts to gather with students, parents, teachers administrators and school staff members to pray for the upcoming school year.” said Dr. Amy Holder, children’s minister at the church, “It has been a blessing to see how many people turn out to support and pray for our schools. One of the nicest surprises is when retired teachers join us. It is a very powerful experience to stand at the front entrance of our schools and see people holding hands and lifting up those who will enter the doors.”

The annual ‘Blessing of the Schools’ is on Wednesday July 31st. This year’s schedule will start at Caldwell Elementary School at 6:15 p.m., followed by Scottsboro Junior High School at 6:30 p.m., Collins Intermediate School at 6:45 p.m., Nelson Elementary School at 7:00 p.m. and will conclude at Scottsboro High School at 7:30 p.m. For more information, contact Holder at 256-574-2545.
