With less than a week left in the school year, locations for the free summer lunch program have been announced.  It’s easy to forget that many students depend on their school lunches for their nutrition.  These students need some fuel to help them stay active during the summer months.

Jennifer Pritchett, Jackson County CNP Director, announced that there will be eight lunch sites open in Jackson County beginning Friday, June 3.  The Seamless Summer Program runs through June 28.  This is a federally funded summer nutrition program.

This year the lunch sites will be North Sand Mountain High School, Section High School, Pisgah High School, Macedonia Elementary, Dutton Elementary, Bridgeport Elementary and Stevenson Elementary, and Woodville High School. The meals are free to anyone aged 18 or younger.

Bridgeport, Dutton, and Section will offer breakfast in addition to lunch.  Breakfast will be served from 8:30-10 a.m.  Children from nearby schools are encouraged to attend for both meals.  Parents and caretakers are welcome to eat as well.  Adult lunch plates are $3.50, and the adult breakfast is $2.

The Seamless Summer Program targets areas where at least half the children in the community qualify for the free or reduced price meals during the school year.  The lunch service begins around 11 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
