The Scottsboro varsity boys bowling team is headed to the regionals.

The Wildcats will participate in the North Regional Thursday and Friday at Vestavia Bowl in Vestavia Hills.

The top-eight finishing teams at regionals advance to the AHSAA State Bowling Championships Jan. 23-24 in Tuscaloosa.

Scottsboro finished 8-3 this season and won the Class 1A-7A Area 16 championship. The area also included Huntsville, Lee, Randolph, Buckhorn and Westminster Christian.

Team members are senior Colin Beddingfield, junior Zac Cushman, sophomore Eli Woods, freshmen Brody Mason and Palmer Shannon, eighth-graders Dylan Chastain and Xavier Lassetter and seventh-grader Tyler Eakin.

“I am super proud of these guys,” said Scottsboro coach Matt Brewer. “They have overcome a lot of challenges this year. We won as a team and learned hard life lessons as a team. History was made. This is the first time SHS Bowling has sent a boys team to the regional tournament. For us to represent SHS as well as the city of Scottsboro is a very rewarding feeling. I am honored to be their coach. It has been a very special season. The Scottsboro Bowling Team would also like to thank Mike and Sandra, owners, of Victory Lanes as well as Lee Becker, for their constant help and support. We couldn't do it without them.”
