SATURDAY, FEB. 29

• Members of the Scottsboro Tree Commission, along with help from Jackson County Master Gardeners, will give away tree seedlings, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Veterans Fairgrounds on Cecil Street. This is in celebration of Alabama Arbor Week, Feb. 24-29. Seedlings available will be Cherry Bark Oaks, Southern Red Oaks, Shumard Oaks, Persimmons, Mayhaws, Pecans, White Flowering Dogwoods, Red Maples and Yoshino Cherry Tree cuttings. Smokey Bear and Jackson County Foresters will assist with distribution. Come by, pick up some seedlings and grow a greener world.

• The Pleasant Groves Cemetery Association will have a barbecue supper and silent auction, from 5-7:30 p.m., at the Pleasant Groves Community Center.

• The Jackson County Master Gardeners will meet at the senior center at Jackson County Park. Social time will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the program, “Crepe Myrtle & Bark Scale, presented by Alice Lawler from the Madison County Master Gardeners. The March business meeting will follow. Please invite a friend, bring food to share and a gardening item for the drawing.

SATURDAY, MARCH 7

• DAR High School Marching Band will host a bingo and chili night, beginning at 5 p.m., in the DAR School lunchroom. Each chili supper is $5 and includes either a bowl of chili with crackers, dessert and drink, or two hot dogs, dessert and drink. Food will be available from 5 p.m. until we run out. Bingo begins at 6 p.m. until all prizes are gone. All proceeds go to DAR High School Marching Band.

• The Jackson County Beekeepers Association will have a beginner beekeeping workshop, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Jackson County Farmers Federation, located at 23625 John T. The workshop will include equipment building and use, setting up you apiary, what to expect when you get bees, how to keep bees alive, diseased pests and colony management.
