Two men are in jail in connection with an alleged kidnapping of another man. Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips said a man contacted authorities and said he had been kidnapped before escaping.
“The man said he had been kidnapped by two men the night before at his residence on County Road 660 in Rosalie,” said Phillips.
According to Phillips, the 49-year-old victim said he was taken to a residence on Moses Drive in Henagar, where he was bound in a van. The man said he was able to get loose and ran to another residence to contact authorities.
WAAY TV in Huntsville reported that the neighbor who helped the victim said he was “disoriented, shirtless, had duct tape on his neck and had a rope he said he was tied up with.”
Phillips said the man suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
Later Friday, Phillips said Mark Alan Byers, 51 of Henagar, was arrested. On Sunday, the second suspect, Jerry Clayton Grider, 43 of Fort Payne, was arrested in Dade County, Georgia.
Byers and Grider are both charged with kidnapping first degree, burglary first degree and assault second degree. They are both currently in the Jackson County Jail on bonds of $100,000 each.
Phillips said the case is still under investigation and more people could be charged.
