A  man died Sunday during hunting trip in Jackson County.

Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen, of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, said John Straka, 57 of Brownsboro, was on a hunting trip alone in Hollytree.

“We got a call that he had not returned from the trip and was no answering his phone,” said Harnen.

Harnen said Scottsboro-Jackson County Rescue Squad, Rosalie Rescue Squad and Valley Fire, along with the sheriff’s office, responded to the area, off County Road 12.

Harnen said, after a search, rescue personnel located Straka.

“It appears he fell from a tree stand ladder,” said Harnen. “We don’t know how he fell, if he had a medical condition or not.”

Straka was pronounced dead at the scene.
