A Stevenson man is facing a felony charge in connection with allegedly hitting a referee at last Friday night’s North Jackson-Arab football game.

Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen, of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, said Johnny Ladell Gilliam, 38 of Stevenson, was charged with assault third degree. Harnen said Gilliam turned himself in Monday after a warrant was issued.

Gilliam was later released on bond.

Harnen said Gilliam is facing a Class C felony, which is a state law for assaulting a sports official.
