The Marion County 4-H Horse Club has been working tirelessly to prepare for the 2018 Regional Hippology and Horse Bowl Competition. On Jan. 20, that effort paid off for many of the participants.

This 4-H contest is unique in that it is actually two contests in one. Both are knowledge-based, however, the Hippology contest features a more traditional style knowledge test with questions and identification of items related to horses and horse ownership. Horse Bowl, however, is a fast-paced, Jeopardy style game. Students were given buzzers and compete as teams against other counties on their knowledge of horses.

Horse Bowl is where the students shined. The Junior Team, consisting of Brady Higdon, Kasey Colvin and Jacie Davenport placed 3rd overall and will travel to Knoxville in February to compete for state honors. The Junior High team narrowly missed placing in the top 3 after being eliminated on the last question of a tight game.
