On Jan. 16 around 1:30 a.m., the Stevenson Police Department (SPD) and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call reporting a shooting.  

The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. at a residence at 211 Sharon Drive, just East of Highway 72. 

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the body of Joshua Todd Smith, 38 of Jasper, Tenn., inside the home. 

Christopher Kenneth McCallie, 26, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of murder.

According to officials, Smith’s body was transported to the Huntsville Department of Forensic Science to undergo an autopsy.

As information regarding the shooting developed, on the afternoon of Jan. 17, a second arrest was made. Brittany Joyce Smith, 30 of Stevenson was arrested and charged with murder around 1:30 p.m. according to a press release. 

Both McCallie and Brittany Smith each have a $250,000 bond set and remain in the Jackson County Jail, awaiting their court dates. 

Officials reported that McCallie and Brittany Smith are siblings, and Smith owned the Stevenson home where the incident occurred.

Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips said that McCallie and Joshua Smith were acquaintances, but would not elaborate about a possible motive for the crime.
