The Marion County men’s basketball team held off rival South Pittsburg to pick up a 75-68 win on Jan. 5 at home.
Both teams came out gunning. South Pittsburg put 10 points on the board, but was narrowly edged out by Marion County, who scored 11.
South Pittsburg took over the lead in the second quarter. The Pirates outscored the Warriors 16-14.
The Pirates went into the half up 26-25.
The Warriors took back the lead and then some in the third. They put 26 points on the board during that quarter and held the Pirates to 16. Marion took a 51-42 win into the final quarter.
South Pittsburg tried to mount a comeback during the fourth. They put 26 points on the board, but Marion County scored 24, which was enough to secure the win.
Kane Hale led the Warriors with 30 points.
Toney Sampson had 22 points, Jace Williamson had 12 points, Reece Barton had eight points and Nicq Ivory had three points.
Jabraile Ford led the Pirates with 22 points.
Sawyer Kelley had 17 points, Mason Fuqua had 10 points, Cade Kennemore had eight points, E.J. Cagle had six points, Ronto Tipton had three points and James Talley had two points.
