The fifth annual Scottsboro BBQ Festival was a success, offering an opportunity for several thousand visitors to come out and enjoy activities throughout the day.
The committee would like to thank the volunteers who helped with the event, without their support and dedication to the community; the annual festival would not be possible.
Below is a list of results for the various competitions at the 2019 festival.
The Grand Champion of the Backyard competition was Puck Daddy’s Killer Q, while the Reserve Grand Champion was Parrty All Knight. First place in Chicken went to South Ryland and first place in Ribs went to Hickory Hangover.
Third through fifth places in the overall Backyard Competition were 3rd - Backyard Porkers, 4th - Hickory Hangover and 5th - South Ryland.
Other placers in the Chicken Category included 2nd - Puck Daddy's Killer Q, 3rd - WSG Cookers, 4th - Bonnie Blue BBQ and 5th - Parrty All Knight. Other places in the Ribs Category included 2nd - Puck Daddy's Killer Q, 3rd - Outhouse Smokers, 4th - Backyard Porkers and 5th - Parrty All Knight.
With nearly 30 competitors in the Kids-Q and Jr. Grill Master competitions, the committee saw one of the largest turnouts for the event. The Kids-Q competition was won by Anna Beth Miller, while the Jr. Grill Master competition was won by Hunter Dillard.
The remaining top five placers in the Kids-Q included 2nd - Lauren Walker & Haylie Honea, 3rd - Braden White, 4th - Craft Sanders and 5th - Parker Dodson.
The popular People’s Choice competition, a combination of 20 Boston butts and desserts. Winning the Boston butt category was Barking Pig, followed by Shines BBQ in second and Darryl Eustace in third. Winning the Dessert category was Bonnie Edmondson with Sweet Potato Bread Pudding. Second place went to KC’s BBQ with their Banana Pudding, while third place went to Ken Looney for his famous cookies.
New for the 2019 People’s Choice category was a Judge’s Choice category and Best Decorated Table. Shines BBQ won the Judge’s Choice in the Boston butt category. Mary Miller won the Dessert category for Judge’s Choice with her Turtle Texas Sheet Cake. Winning Best Decorated Table was Bonnie Edmondson.
The Witches Ride was also a new event to this year’s festival. Ladies dressed as witches road down Broad Street to the Square and threw candy out to kids. Winning Best Dressed Witch was Georgia Dukes. Tracy Kendrick won Best Decorated Bike.
