City of Scottsboro Events and Marketing Coordinator Meg Nippers attended the Scottsboro City Council meeting on Monday to ask for a $15,000 tourism grant to pay for things associated with the Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament. There are certain things for which the city is responsible.

The tournament is coming to Scottsboro on June 21 through June 24. There will be 75 anglers fishing in the Bassmaster Elite Series 2019 tournament. Each day of the tournament will be televised on ESPN. An average of 13,000 people has attended the event in the past.

Council president Patrick Stewart said this event would be huge for the city of Scottsboro. He said the projected economic impact for the week of the event would be $1.2 to 2.1 million.

He also said the average tourism revenue from this event over 24 months in $17.9 million. Stewart said he was looking forward to the event, and he is excited for the impact it will have on the city.

Goose Pond Colony general manager Sosebee said with the Bassmaster Elite series coming, they wanted to have a festival to celebrate the event and have something for people in town to do other than watch the weigh in for the tournament. He said there would be concerts on a couple of the days during the fishing tournament.

The main concert with begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday the 22nd at the Goose Pond Amphitheater. Roshambeaux, The Night Birds, and Contagan will be performing that night.

Sosebee said the Goose Pond was also a miracle mile for other outdoor activities such as camping or golf. He said that it is a great place to come see things and celebrate things.

He thinks that ‘Miracle Mile’ was a perfect fit for this event. All events during the weekend will be free of charge. Vendors will be set up all weekend. Sosebee said it would be a great event for outdoor lovers.

There will be an Elite Expo on Saturday and Sunday of the event. The expo is at every Elite Series, and It opens at noon on those two days. People can take a demo ride of a Nitro, Skeeter or Triton boat. They can see the latest from Toyota and Carhartt, and they can win prizes.

They can explore the Berkley/Abu Garcia Experience trailer and test their knot-tying skills. They can join B.A.S.S. and buy official Bassmaster merchandise. They can learn more about Yamaha, T-H Marine, Power-Pole and more. There will also be kids’ activities at the expo.

On Saturday, June 22 there will be several events and programs at the Bassmaster Eilte 2019. There will be an Angler Alley where people will have the opportunity to meet the Elites from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It’s a chance to talk to the pros one-on-one, get autographs and take photos. There will also be an Elite Angler Clinic where the pros will talk about tips, techniques, gear and all things bass fishing.

Saturday will also be Military and First Responder Appreciation Day. There will also be live music beginning at 6 p.m. at the Goose Pond Colony Amphitheater. B.A.S.S. will host the entertainment on Sunday with a watch party.

Takeoffs will begin at 6 a.m. and weigh ins will start at 2:15 p.m. The deadline to register for vendors is June 1.
