Thomas Mitchell Barron, USN (P02), Ret), 59 of Woodville, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Washington after a brief battle with cancer.

Tom is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ginger Barron (Stephens) of Woodville; three children, Thomas Jr., Charles and James and a grandson, Mitchell, all of the Sequim, Washington area.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Carter Barron of Woodville; father, George Barron of Woodville; four siblings, Douglas, Robert, David and Peggie; multiple nephews and nieces and his “fur baby,” a service dog named Sambo.

Tom served the United States Navy with distinction as a lithographer before his retirement in 2003 after 24 years of active service as a Petty Officer Second Class (P02).

He began his Navy career aboard the USS Puget Sound (AD-38) with the Sixth Fleet sailing out of Gaeta, Italy from November 1979 to January 1983. He served aboard the USS Long Beach (CGN-9) with the WestPac out of San Diego, California from August 1984 to February 1988. He served aboard the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) with the WestPac out of San Diego from August 1991 to September 1995.

During his time aboard the USS Tripoli, the ship was called to action during Operation Desert Storm. Tom ended his time in shipboard service aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-8) completing a world tour at sea in his final years of sea duty.

His service awards include Navy Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (two awards) and the Battle “E” Award.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Missionary Church, located at 7995 County Road 8 in Woodville, with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13, 2019, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
