Raymond L. Edwards, 82 of Scottsboro, passed away on Feb. 5, 2020.
He was born in Scottsboro on Feb. 25, 1937 to Charles and Matilda (Vann) Edwards. He left Scottsboro in 1955 to join the military and was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
After the military, he settled outside of Atlanta, Georgia, married Carole Annette Anderson and graduated from Georgia State University. He retired from Delta Airlines after working as both a mechanic and technical writer.
In his retirement, he kept active by walking up and down July Mountain, working in his shop “tinkering” on things, reading and was constantly learning and researching topics of interest until his last day.
He especially loved learning about the history of Jackson County and visited sites of interest on his daily drive.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at 2 p.m., at Gorham’s Bluff Inn in Pisgah.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his only child, Carole (Travis) Patterson; grandchildren, Jackson Lauer and Marshall Lauer; brothers, Boyd (June) Edwards, Carlton (Faye) Edwards and Rod (Virginia) Edwards; sisters, Bernice (Don) Johnson and Brenda (Rick) Brown and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Edwards; parents, Charles and Matilda Edwards and brothers, Jimmy Edwards, Steve Edwards and Donald Edwards.
