The dreams of basketball glory officially began Monday night as high school girls teams battled in the sub-regional round.

Once again, Jackson County will be well represented on the road to Birmingham this year. Scottsboro, Pisgah, Skyline and Section girls all played Monday night. A win sent them on to Jacksonville State University to the regional tournament.

It’s been a special year for the Scottsboro Wildcats. It’s a year that shows no signs of ending anytime soon (hopefully there was no shock last night).

A regular visitor to the Final Four in Birmingham, Pisgah girls are looking to go once again. And all bets are showing they should do that.

The boys’ sub-regional round is Tuesday night. Again, winners advance to the regional tournament next week.

This past Friday night, Pisgah brought the battle to Class 3A No.1-ranked Plainview before falling in the area tournament championship. Twice, during the regular season, Plainview throttled the Eagles with little problems.

Funny things happen this time of year, though. The Eagles proved they could play, and it should give them confidence as they head to Weaver. Is a Plainview-Pisgah regional final on the horizon?
