Dear Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Les Hutson and the Scottsboro Community Band for an outstanding concert this past Sunday afternoon.

The band performed an array of various patriotic and “crowd pleaser” tunes that brought the audience to their feet at the end for a prolonged standing ovation.

The band, composed of community musicians of various ages, has become an elite group that I would put p against any similar group anywhere.

Sunday’s performance was remarkable. The group displayed such an advanced level of intonation, balance and overall musicianship that one would think these players were professional musicians rather than just a group of folk from different occupations who put in countless hours of practice after work just because they love music and enjoy sharing it with others.

One of the highlights of the concert was a medley of songs that paid tribute to the Armed Forces sung by a combined choir of singers from various churches in the downtown area with accompaniment provided by the community band.

What a delight to see various denominations come together for such a worthy cause — honoring our country and the men and women that served in the armed forces.

In a time when there is so much division and polarization in our country it was refreshing to see unity and patriotism displayed in such a warm setting.

To those citizens in Jackson County who didn’t even know we had a community band, I invite you to seek out the group’s next performance and plan to attend.

And, Dr. Hutson, you are such a blessing and asset to our community.
