The Scottsboro golf team made its last match count before COVID-19 (coronavirus) put high school sports on hold.
The Wildcats had two golfers shoot under 40 during a 167-202 nine-hole match victory over New Hope on March 13 at the Goose Pond Colony Lake Course.
Scottsboro (4-2) was led by John Bone’s 1-over par 37 and Chase Berry’s 3-over 39. The Wildcats also got a 44 from Drake Hogland, a 45 from Buckner Anderson and a 46 from Preston Drain.
“It’s a shame our season is in whatever limbo we may be. We were really beginning to click and had a real shot of reaching out goal to get to Montgomery,” said Scottsboro coach Zach Perkins. “I’m not sure what the AHSAA is going to do but I would be in for anything that allows my athletes compete, no matter the time of year. Just a tough situation for all.”
On March 12, Class 5A Section 5 foe Arab edged Scottsboro 176-178 at Cherokee Ridge Golf Club in Union Grove two days after Scottsboro posted a two-shot win over the Knights during the teams’ match at Goose Pond Colony.
Matt Croft shot a 42 for Scottsboro while Berry and Bone both shot 45, Drain shot 46 and Anderson shot 49.
