The Scottsboro cross country teams posted strong finishes during their first look at the state meet course this season.

Scottsboro teams posted three top-five finishes as well as an 11th-place finish during the Jesse Owens Classic at Oakville Indians Mounds Park on Saturday.

Scottsboro finished second in the Jesse Owens Classic’s Boys 5K Gold Division with 127 points, 13 points back of champion Homewood (114).

Cooper Atkins led the Scottsboro charge with an eighth-place finish (16:00.45). Hayden Judge finished 14th (16:16.35) while Benson Atkins was 18th (16:26.17), Zach Avenel 33rd (16:42.74), Ben Gossett 69th (17:17.99), Rex Green 103rd (17:43.47) and Josue Vela Castillo 112th (17:48.00).

Meanwhile, Scottsboro also finished 11th in the Jesse Owens Classic’s Girls 5K Gold Race with 331 points. Auburn won the division title with 68 points.

Maddie Gossett led Scottsboro with a 41st-place finish (20:05.77). Cambree Bradford followed in 51st place (20:27.25) while Ally Campbell was 67th (20:53.28), Emma Bradford 77th (21:02.41), Smith Bradford 116th (21:49.37), Anna Carlson 117th (21:49.92) and Hannah Cloud 164th (23:26.98).

Scottsboro finished third in the Girls Bronze Division in an ultra-competitive race 5K race. Arab won with 166 points, edging Southside (166) via a tiebreaker. Scottsboro was one point back with 167 points.

Mabry Bonsall finished 18th (21:33.66) for Scottsboro while Makenna Howes was 21st (21:45.25), Gracy Cole 23rd (21:47.95), Lauren Paradise 43rd (22:29.05), Cadence Laughlin 90th (23:46.58), McCall Chandler 112th (24:19.64) and Wylie Webb 188th (26:38.87).

Meanwhile, Scottsboro finished fifth in the Boys Bronze Division 5K Race with 193 points. St. John Paul II was the winner with 67 points while Randolph was second with 149.

Brady Thomas finished 14th (17:04.03) for Scottsboro while Josh Hill was 35th (17:28.72), Ridge Wells 50th (17:55.62), Wilson Hill 53rd (17:57.85), Cameron Estes 58th (18:01.64), Jackson Howes 68th (18:19.43), Skylar Reichle 288th (20:53.66), Jo Carlile 302nd (21:09.99), Christian Kilgore 372nd (22:28.11), Nathan Bearden 407th (23:05.16) and Colin Selenerick 446th (23:52.08).
