The Scottsboro baseball team took two from visiting Section on Thursday.

Scottsboro (11-6) won the doubleheader’s opener 9-0 before taking the nightcap 13-4.

Scottsboro pitchers Reed Latimer and Tanner Barclay combined on a two-hitter in Game 1. Latimer carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Montevallo allowed one hit and recorded 11 strikeouts on the way to the win on the mound. Barclay fanned one while pitching the seventh inning.

Riley Bennett finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Wildcats while Peyton Grant was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Scottsboro also got a three-run double from Latimer and an RBI single from Ethan Wininger while Brody Hyde and Ethan Clark had one hit each and Kyle Murphy had an RBI. 

Jonathan Carroll and Taylor Payne both singled for Section.

Scottsboro rallied to win Game 2 after Section built a 3-0 lead on Payne’s RBI sacrifice in the first inning and Payne’s RBI single and Drake McCutchen’s RBI walk in the top of the third. 

But Scottsboro moved in front after scoring five runs in the bottom of the third on RBI singles from Wininger and Bennett and Dalton Wood’s three-run homer. The Wildcats added three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth to close it out. 

Bennett finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Camden Matthews doubled, singled, walked and drove in two runs while Grant was 2-for-4 with an RBI double, Latimer was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Gray Dixson was 1-for-3 with an RBI. 

Lane Pitts got the win on the mound for the Wildcats, striking out nine over four innings. Everett Loveless had three strikeouts over two innings while Hyde pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Wiley McCutchen finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Section (5-6) while Payne was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Trevier Porter singled and Cole Woods drew two walks.

North Jackson 9, Plainview 5 — At Rainsville, visiting Class 4A No. 3-ranked North Jackson scored four runs in the top of the eighth  to record the extra-inning victory over Plainview on Thursday.

After Plainview, tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, North Jackson (15-2) used took the lead in the eighth when John Matthews drew a bases-loaded walk. Another run scored when Brandon Poole reached on an error and Jody Moore hit a two-run double.

Moore finished with three RBIs and Logan Morris went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Morris pitched the final three innings and got the win on the mound for the Chiefs.

Wednesday

North Jackson 7, Cedar Bluff 5  — At Fort Payne, the Chiefs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to slide past Cedar Bluff.North Jackson built 5-0 lead after two innings before Cedar Bluff rallied to tie the game with two in the third and three in the fifth. 

The Chiefs scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on a Cedar Bluff error.

Jordan Eakin finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and John Matthews drove in two runs. Logan Morris pitched 1 1/3 innings and got the win in the relief.

Huntsville 10, Scottsboro 0 — At Huntsville, Scottsboro managed only three hits while having its three-game winning streak snapped by the Class 7A Panthers.

Peyton Grant doubled for the Wildcats while Riley Bennett and Kyle Murphy singled. Bennett and Dalton both drew a walk.

North Jackson 14, Sylvania 2 — At Fort Payne, North Jackson posted a run-rule shortened victory over the Rams.
