TRINITY — The North Jackson Chiefs lost another close game after it led late in the game. The Chiefs led the Rebels 40-37 at the beginning of the fourth quarter but could not hold on and lost by a score of 51-46.

“We were up late in the game, but we ran out of gas and they came back,” said North Jackson Head Coach Chandler Tygard. “It was similar to last week’s loss to Priceville.”

West Morgan (3-5, 2-4) led 13-12 after one quarter of play Friday night. The Rebels struck first on Cade Alexander’s 10-yard touchdown run. North Jackson (1-7, 1-5) answered with a four-yard run from Brady Cunningham but failed to convert the two-point conversion. Carter Gass found Cunningham for a 20-yard score with 25 seconds left in the first quarter, but again failed to convert the two-point conversion.

West Morgan recorded a safety midway through the second quarter after Dalton Morris fumbled a snap and recovered the ball in his own end zone. North Jackson took the lead with three minutes to go in the half on Morris’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Gilliam. The two teams traded touchdowns in the last two minutes of the half, and North Jackson led 26-23 at halftime.

The Chiefs extended its lead in the third quarter with Gass’ two-yard touchdown run. The Rebels answered with a 52-yard touchdown scamper by Adam Lucas. The Chiefs answered right back with Gilliam’s 77-yard touchdown run. West Morgan’s Cade Alexander scored with less than three minutes to go in the third quarter, and North Jackson took a 40-37 lead going into the final quarter.

Alexander started the scoring in the fourth with a long touchdown run and the Rebels never gave up the lead after that. He scored again midway through the quarter to put the nail in the coffin. Gilliam added a touchdown late in the game for North Jackson.
