The Scottsboro volleyball team’s season came to an end at the hands of Class 5A’s No.7-ranked team.

Top-seeded Arab swept fourth-seeded Scottsboro in a best-of-five match during the Class 5A Area 15 Tournament on Monday at Arab High School.

Arab won the first two games 25-13 before clinching the match with a 25-10 win in Game 3.

“We knew going in that Arab would be a very tough match,” said Scottsboro head coach Patrick Kritner. “Their middles are very good and that is difficult to play against in volleyball. We didn't play a bad match, but they just played better.”

Arab wound up finishing as the area runner-up after losing 25-17, 25-22, 25-16 in the area finals to second-seeded and No. 4-ranked Brewer, which defeated third-seeded and No. 9-ranked Guntersville in the other area semifinal match. Both Arab and Brewer advanced to the Class 5A North Super Regional in Huntsville.

Meanwhile, Scottsboro finished 7-22.

“Our players were given a very tough schedule — 16 of the 21 losses were to teams currently ranked in the top 10 or receiving nominations,” Kritner said. “I thought the girls played hard and I am proud of them. The team improved in every statistical category over last season even if it may not appear that way in the win/loss column. They fought hard and shouldn't hang their heads about any of it.”

Local teams fall in area tournaments — North Sand Mountain, North Jackson and Woodville had their seasons end in the area tournament play.

NSM fell to Fyffe in the Class 2A Area 15 Tournament semifinals at Ider on Monday. On Tuesday, North Jackson lost to Randolph in the 4A Area 14 Tournament semifinals at DAR while Woodville lost to fourth-ranked Lindsay Lane in the Class 1A Area 15 Tournament semifinals.
