The 2019-20 Scottsboro seventh-grade boys basketball team now has a championship on its resume.

Scottsboro (9-1) posted wins over Cullman and Arab to claim the seventh-grade boys division championship during  the SSBA Thanksgiving Tournament in Guntersville.

The Wildcats defeated Arab 49-26 in the finals on Saturday. Scottsboro raced in front 21-5 after one quarter and was in front 32-16 at halftime and 41-23 after three quarters.

Jake Jones scored a 16 points for Scottsboro and Tyler Shelton netted 10 and Evan Petriske had eight while Trip Nelson and Trent Wilson pitched in six each.

The Wildcats reached the finals with a 42-14 semifinal-round win over Cullman on Friday.

Scottsboro led just 7-4 after one quarter but stretched its advantage to 22-8 by halftime. The Wildcats were in control 38-10 after three quarters.

Scoring leaders for Scottsboro were Jones with 16, Jarret Scott with 10, Nelson with seven and Shelton with five.
