A rival spoiled the North Sand Mountain volleyball team’s 2018 season opener.
Host Dade County (Georgia) edged NSM two games to one to defeat the Bison in Samantha Alsobrook’s debut as NSM head coach on Monday in Trenton, Georgia.
Dade County won the first set 25-11 before the Bison rebounded to win the second set 25-13.
The Wolverines held off NSM 25-23 in the match’s decisive third set.
“The loss was hard for the girls,” Alsobrook said. “Our setter, Triston Barrett, suffered a major injury just two days [before the match] and we have had to make several adjustments to our rotations and plays.”
Middle blocker Jasmine Higdon posted four solo blocks and six kills for NSM while setter Willow Hale had two setter attacks and three kills.
NSM libero Macy Smith posted three aces and 13 digs and Ariana Christopher had three aces and one kill while Alexis Leake had two kills and Annabelle Westmoreland had one kill and one ace.
NSM plays its home opener Tuesday at 5 p.m. against South Pittsburg (Tennessee).
