The Skyline varsity girls basketball team raced out to a big first quarter lead and never looked back on the way to win No. 24 of the season.
Skyline (24-3) opened up a 22-2 lead after one quarter and cruised to regular-season ending 61-28 win over Appalachian Friday night. The Vikings led 29-10 at halftime and 43-13 after three quarters.
Bailee Usrey finished with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists while Aidan Bellomy had 15 points, Gracie Stucky had 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals and Kenzi Manning had nine points and two assists. Chloe Blakely and Ashley Whittington scored nine points each for Appalachian (13-9).
Brindlee Mountain 56, Section 47 — At Scant City, the Lions dropped their regular-season finale to Class 3A Brindlee Mountain Friday night.
Section (12-15) led 12-11 after one quarter before falling behind 25-19 at halftime and 42-29 after three quarters.
Savannah White scored 18 points and Jennifer Vega netted 13 for the Lions, who also got nine from Haley Smart and five from Madison Armstrong.
Leading scorers for Brindlee Mountain (8-13) were Chantzley Kirkland with 20 points, Kyleigh Wilks with 11 and Kailyn Childress with 10.
New Hope 50, Woodville 24 — At Woodville, visiting New Hope pulled away in the second half to hand the Panthers a loss in their regular-season finale.
Woodville (5-21) trailed 17-9, 25-15 and 41-17 at the quarter breaks.
Tia Edwards scored 11 points while Courtney Williams and Jordyn Cosby, playing her first game since November because of an injury, both scored four points.
Kaylee Yarbrough scored 18 points for New Hope (19-9) while Lauren Busbey netted nine and McKinnlee Keel added eight.
Sand Rock 61, NSM 30 — At Higdon, Class 2A No. 7-ranked Sand Rock opened up a 25-7 lead after one quarter on the way to the victory.
NSM (3-17) trailed 45-16 at halftime and 59-26 after three quarters.
Jesse Weldon led the Bison with 13 points while Nady Poore and Kolbie Bobo scored six each.
Caley Garrett scored 16 points for Sand Rock (20-9) while Lanie Henderson added 12 and Kynleigh Chesnut netted 10.
