The defending Class 1A state champion suffered a season-opening loss to a Class 4A power.

Skyline came up short against Priceville during the Guntersville Early Bird Classic at Guntersville High School on Saturday.

The Vikings, who trailed 10-7 after one quarter, fell behind 28-15 at halftime before rallying to within 39-33 after three quarters.

Gracie Rowell scored 19 points and Blakely Stucky netted 10 for Skyline (0-1), which also got seven from Kenzie Manning, four each from Lexie Stucky and Kaina King, three from Audra Bellomy and two from Brinlee Potts.

Lauren Hames scored 13 points and Gracin Prater added 11 for Priceville (1-0).

Pleasant Grove 55, Scottsboro 53 — At Guntersville, Pleasant Grove clipped Scottsboro in the closing seconds on Saturday at Guntersville Middle School.

Scottsboro (0-2) trailed 15-10, 30-21 and 45-40 at the quarter breaks. The Wildcats rallied to tie the game at 53-all, but after Pleasant Grove sank a pair of free throws to regain the lead, Scottsboro missed a contested shot in the ensuing possession. 

Audrey Holland scored 19 points and Lexie Bennett netted 15 for Scottsboro, which also got seven from Adair Holland and four each from Keira Culver, Jadaya Edmondson and Morgan Perkins.

Tamya Smith and Kennedi McCrary scored 19 and 11 points respectively for Pleasant Grove (2-0).
