A former Scottsboro High School football standout enjoyed a breakout game for the Troy football team last Saturday.
DK Billingsley, a redshirt sophomore running back for the Trojans, ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries while catching one pass for 14 yards during Troy’s 43-14 season-opening win over Campbell.
Billingsley’s touchdown runs covered 1 and 38 yards.
Billingsley played sparingly on offense for the Trojans last season. But the 2017 Scottsboro alum and former Class 5A Back of the Year finalist and three-time all-state running back — Billingsley ran for 5,295 yards and 68 touchdowns on 746 carries at SHS — entered the season second on the Troy running back depth chart and figures to play a key role at the position throughout the season.
“He’s a horse, and he’s always been a horse,” senior starting Troy running back B.J. Smith told A. Stacy Long of the Montgomery Advertiser. “He showed what he can do.”
