Most people do not look forward to Mondays. But this past Monday was different.
“It’s finally game week,” said North Sand Mountain head football coach Keith Kirby. “This is what we’ve been working towards, to be honest, since December.”
AHSAA high school sports begin this week in cross country, football and volleyball.
On the gridiron, Week 0 features both regular-season and fall jamboree scrimmages. NSM (at Dade County) and Woodville (vs. Waterloo) are playing regular-season games while Scottsboro, North Jackson and Pisgah are playing jamborees. Section is not playing a regular-season or jamboree this week.
Scottsboro hosts Sylvania and Pisgah hosts Ider while North Jackson visits Guntersville in jamboree action. All of the games and jamborees are Friday at 7 p.m.
On the volleyball court, North Jackson visits Pisgah on Thursday (5 p.m.). The rest of the teams open their season next week.
And on Saturday, Scottsboro, Pisgah and Skyline runners get their 2018 season underway during the Lawrence County Pepsi Challenge at Alexander Mini Park in Moulton. The large-school girls 5K race begins at 8:30 a.m. while the large-school boys race is at 8:55 a.m., the small-school girls race at 9:15 a.m. and the small-school varsity boys race at 9:45 a.m.
