The North Jackson baseball team continues to light up the scoreboard.

The Class 4A No. 6-ranked Chiefs reached the 20-run mark for the third time this season during Wednesday’s 23-11 win at Section.

North Jackson (7-1) scored 10 runs in the second inning, eight more in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth before winning in five innings.

Carter Gass finished 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs for the Chiefs and Logan Morris was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and three runs scored while Jordan Cooper went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Brandon Poole and Landon Barnes had two hits — Poole had a triple — and two RBIs each while Jordan Eakin had two hits and scored four runs. Macklin Guess had one hit and two RBIs and Jodi Moore and one hit and one RBI.

Poole pitched three innings and got the win on the mound.

Wiley McCutchen went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Trevier Porter was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Section (2-2) while Jacob Gentry had one hit and two RBIs. Jonathan Carroll, Cole Woods and Layne White each recorded one hit and one RBI while Drake McCutchen singled.

 

Scottsboro 4, NSM 1 — At Scottsboro, three Scottsboro pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Wildcats defeated North Sand Mountain on Wednesday in the first meeting between the teams since 1995.

Reed Latimer, Riley Bennett and Everett Loveless combined for 14 strikeouts on the mound while surrendering only one hit and two walks.

Latimer got the win, pitching four hitless innings and striking out eight. Bennett pitched one inning and struck out two while Loveless struck out four over the final two innings while earning the save.

At the plate, Christian Herberholz went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Scottsboro and Lane Pitts was 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Latimer was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Dalton Wood singled and walked twice. 

Scottsboro took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on Tanner Barclay’s RBI groundout. Herberholz homered to left field in the third, Latimer drew a bases loaded walk and Herberholz hit an RBI single in the fourth.

Harley Tucker, aboard on an error, scored NSM’s lone run in the sixth inning when he scored on Landon Green’s RBI groundout. Drake Holland singled for NSM (0-4). Green, Holland and Jayden Culpepper combined for four strikeouts in two innings of work each for the Bison.

 

Plainview 6-11, Pisgah 2-8 — At Rainsville, host Plainview completed a Class 3A Area 15 series sweep of visiting Pisgah on Wednesday with an 11-8 win. 

Pisgah (2-4, 0-2) led 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Bears scored seven runs in the frame. Pisgah countered with six runs in the top of the fifth, but Plainview added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to claim the win.

Wyatt Whisenant went 2-for-2 with two singles, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIS for Pisgah while Kristian Wheeler, Kade Griffith and Tyler Bell had one hit and one RBI apiece. Nick Feltman walked twice, drove in a run and scored a run.

Plainview (4-4, 2-0) the area series with a 6-2 win on Tuesday at Pisgah. The Bears opened up a 6-1 lead after three innings en route to the win.

Wheeler doubled and drove in a run for Pisgah and Christian Medlock had an RBI while Feltman, Whisenant and Jon Barrett and Steven Wheeler all singled.
