Scottsboro wrestlers remained in contention to earn berths to next weekend’s state tournament at the Class 1A-5A North Super Section Tournament Friday afternoon.

The top-eighth finishers in each weight class advance to the AHSAA Wrestling Championships Feb. 13-15 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

Mason McKenzie in the 106-pound weight class, Clinton Stewart at 126, Russell Proctor at 152 and Kolby Clark at 285 all advanced to the third round of their weight class’ championship bracket. 

McKenzie, Stewart and Clark recorded wins via pin in their first two matches while Proctor, after a first-round bye, scored a pin during his Round 2 match.

Meanwhile, Scottsboro’s Aaron Clark won his opening round match in the 145-pound weight class before falling into the consolation bracket after a second-round loss. Keagan Travis received a first-round bye but lost his second-round match at 160. Luke Bellomy lost his first-round match at 220 and fell into the consolation bracket.

The North Super Section concludes today at the Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham Crossplex.
