The Scottsboro eighth-grade boys basketball team started their season with a pair of wins in the Wildcat Tip-Off Tournament.

Scottsboro defeated Discovery 38-32 in its season opener on Thursday. The Wildcats led 8-4, 15-6 and 26-17 after three quarters. Kyle Wright scored 19 points for Scottsboro while Eli Sparks netted six.

On Saturday, Scottsboro defeated Hampton Cove 43-39. The Wildcats trailed 10-6 after one quarter but led 22-15 at halftime and 33-28 entering the fourth quarter. Davon Walker paced Scottsboro with 16 points while Sparks and Wright netted six each. 

Scottsboro (7th-grade) 32, Hampton Cove 23 — At Scottsboro, the Wildcats picked up their first victory of the season while playing in the Wildcat Tip-off Tournament on Saturday.

Scottsboro led 8-1, 13-6, 26-11 at the quarter breaks. Scoring leaders for Scottsboro were Jake Jones with 11 points, Tyler Shelton with eight, Jarret Scott with six and Trip Nelson with five. 

Discovery 34, Scottsboro (7th-grade) 26 — At Scottsboro, the Wildcats lost their season-opener.

Scottsboro trailed 7-3, 17-4 and 26-15 at the quarter breaks. Trip Nelson led the Wildcats with 10 points while Jake Jones had five and Jarret Scott had four.

Flat Rock 34, Bryant 30 — At Bryant, Flat Rock rallied in the fourth quarter to win on Friday.

Flat Rock (2-1) led 10-4 after one quarter and 19-14 at halftime before Bryant moved in front 23-21 after three quarters. Tyler Grider scored 19 points for the Vikings, who also got six points each from McClain Timmons and Carson Ellison. Brodie Kirkpatrick scored 18 points and Chris Clark added six for Bryant.

Hollywood 38, Bryant 21 — At Bryant, Hollywood built a 16-5 lead after one quarter en route to the win. Keelan Alvarez led Hollywood (2-0) with 20 points. Brodie Kirkpatrick scored nine for Bryant.

Rosalie 47, Macedonia 43 — At Rosalie, the Tigers rallied from a halftime deficit to get a season-opening win.

Macedonia led 18-9 after one quarter and 25-22 at halftime before Rosalie moved in front 34-33 after three quarters.

Legion McCrary led Rosalie with 14 points. Josh Varner and Jesse Cornelius scored 19 and 14 points respectively for Macedonia.

Flat Rock 36, Ider 18 — At Ider, Flat Rock opened up a double-digit lead in the third quarter and went on the for the win Thursday.

The Vikings led 4-2, 14-5 and 26-13 at the quarter breaks.

Tyler Grider scored 14 points and Sam Schrimsher netted 12 for Flat Rock.

Macedonia 39, Bryant 34 (OT) — At Bryant, Macedonia outscored the Bulldogs 7-2 in overtime to win its season opener on Tuesday.

Bryant led 10-5 after one quarter, but Macedonia was in front 15-12 at halftime and 20-18 after three quarters. The game was tied 32-all at the end of regulation.

Josh Varner scored 27 points for Macedonia while Brodie Kirkpatrick led Bryant with 15 points.


Rosalie 34, Macedonia 27 — At Rosalie, the Tigers opened the season with a win Thursday night.

After the game was tied 8-all after one quarter, Rosalie moved in front 17-11 at halftime and led 23-16 after three quarters.

Jaylin Williams scored 10 points and Hannah Bates and Destiny Gann netted eight each for Rosalie. Shelby Putnam scored 10 points and Dixie Sparks added eight for Macedonia.

Hollywood 78, Bryant 8 — At Bryant, Hollywood improved to 2-0 on the season with Thursday’s win.

Alex Wright scored 28 points to lead Hollywood, which also got 20 from Casia Coffey and 15 from MyCaiden Wilborn.

Macedonia 27, Bryant 18 — At Bryant, the Warriors outscored Bryant 9-3 in the third quarter to move in front en route to the win.

Shelby Putnam scored nine points for the Warriors while Lynn-Zee Young netted eight. Emma Fry scored seven points and Macayla Baty added six.
