The Scottsboro junior high cross country teams defended their home course on Monday.
They have two first-place trophies to prove it.
Scottsboro won both the girls and boys division titles during the Seventh-and-Eighth Grade 2-Mile Cross Country Championships at Scottsboro High School’s John R. Esslinger Trail of Champions.
Scottsboro also boasted an individual race winner, as eighth-grader Evan Hill took the top spot in the boys race.
A total of 169 runners from 20 schools, some as from far away as Montgomery and Tuscaloosa, competed in the event.
Scottsboro won the girls division title with a winning low score of 41, 18 points in front of runner-up Lawrence County (59) and 23 in front of third-place Fort Payne (64). Pisgah (246) finished ninth.
The Wildcats had four of the top 11 finishers, led by Emma Bradford’s second-place finish (12:54.94). Smith Bradford followed with a fifth-place finish (13:22.07) and Sadie Latham was seventh (13:29.66) and Lauren Judge 11th (13:42.97), while Ally Campbell finished 20th (14:09.24) to round out Scottsboro’s top-five scoring runners. Makenna Howes finished 27th (14:40.54) while Alektra Holt was 30th (14:47.66), Shelton Linville 42nd (15:33.51), Haylen Miles 45th (15:42.93), Brooklyn McGee 51st (16:06.54) and Sadye Webb 53rd (16:10.94).
For Pisgah, Gracie Mckee finished 70th (17:44.44) while Annalisse Barnhill 73rd (18:09.81), Kimberly Miller 74th (18:18.67), Addison Goff 77th (18:41.51) and Kinsley Phillips 83rd (20:53.35).
Meanwhile, Scottsboro won the boys division title with a winning low score of 30, 25 points better than runner-up Southside.
Hill took the individual title for Scottsboro with a run of 11:19.98, nearly five seconds in front of runner-up Sellers Brown of Hartselle.
Wilson Hill followed in fourth place (11:55.34) for the Wildcats, which had nine runners place in the Top 17. Cameron Estes finished sixth (11:57.78) while Hamilton Richardson was eighth (12:07.35), Johny Felix 11th (12:16.00), Josh Hill 12th (12:16.03), Stephen Jones 13th (12:21.67), River Green 14th(12:25.78), Alex Farr 17th (12:39.37), Alex Avenel 48th (14:35.95), Alex Cloud 49th (14:36.41) and Corbin Gray 62nd (15:40.31).
Running as individuals for Pisgah, Jake Smith placed 66th (15:46.03) while Mason Overdear was 69th (15:51.01) and Brody Giles 80th (18:42.71).
