The Scottsboro swim teams opened their season with a pair of sweeps in a double-dual meet last Thursday night.
Scottsboro defeated Hazel Green 45-12 and Madison County 51-4 in the varsity girls competition while the SHS boys defeated Madison County 66-8 and Hazel Green 49-27.
Individual race winners for the Scottsboro girls were Shelton McCormack in the 100-yard Freestyle (1:17.40), Mary Cook in the 50-yard Freestyle (32 seconds), Olyvia Stone in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:14.34) and Jessica Vincent in the 50-yard Backstroke (33.55).
Scottsboro also won all three girls’ relay races.
Stone, Vincent, Cheyenne Vincent and Claire McGehee teamed up to win both the 200-yard medley relay (2:10.34) and the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:59.42) while Stone, Megehee, Jessica Vincent and Paige Giles teamed up to win the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.
Meanwhile, Scottsboro state champion swimmer Kyle Vosen won two individual races for the SHS boys. Vosen won the 200-yard Freestyle race with a time of 1:56.22 and the 50-yard Backstroke with a time of 26.23 seconds.
Por Saengklieng in the 100-yard Freestyle (1:09.34), Tanner Gossett in the 100-yard Individual Medley (1:17.89), Juan Gomez in the 50-yard Freestyle (30.67) and Tony Pereira in the 50-yard Butterfly (26.10) also posted wins in individual races for the Wildcats.
The SHS boys also won a pair of relay races, as Pereira, Gossett, Vosen and Will Rogers teamed up to win both the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:49.73) and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (4:08.74).
