The Section girls basketball team is off to a strong start.

A night after defeating Valley Head, the Lions improved to 2-0 with a 59-46 win at Asbury Friday night.

Section trailed 12-6 after one quarter bore moving in front 25-22 at halftime and 42-33 after three quarters.

Savannah White had 21 points and five rebounds for the Lions while Madison Armstrong had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Haley Smart added 10 points and seven rebounds while Jennifer Vega had seven points and four steals and Dailey Hanenburg had four points.

Section 41, Valley Head 21 — At Valley Head, the Lions opened up a double-digit lead in the second quarter en route to a season-opening win on Thursday.

Section led 8-6 after one quarter before stretching its advantage to 21-8 at halftime. The Lions led 31-13 after three quarters.

Haley Smart had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds for Section, while Savannah White had six points and three assists and Morgan Armstrong had six points. Dailey Hanenburg had five points and four assists and Jennifer Vega had five points and three assists while Madison Armstrong netted four points.

Bailee Carter netted 17 points for Valley Head (0-1).


Asbury 50, Section 41 (OT) —At Asbury, the Rams outscored the Lions 9-0 in overtime to get the win.

Section (0-1) led 12-9, 26-23 and 35-27 at the quarter breaks before Asbury (1-0) rallied to tie the game 41-all at the end of regulation.

Alex Guinn scored nine points for the Lions, who also got eight points from Logan Patterson, six each from Trevier Porter, Bo Bradford and Gabe Hilley and four from Staton Robbins.

Hunter Patterson scored 14 points, Skylar Bearden had 13 and Matt Wilson had 12 for Asbury.
