Desiree Clark is headed back to the sidelines of a volleyball court.
Clark has been hired as North Jackson’s new coach. Her hiring was finalized at the latest Jackson County Board of Education meeting.
Clark played volleyball in high school at Scottsboro for longtime SHS coach Jeff Adkins and she served as Scottsboro’s head coach during the 2014 season.
Clark was Scottsboro’s bowling head coach during the 2015-16 school year and has taught and been the junior varsity cheer coach at Madison County High School in Gurley the past two years. Clark will teach special education at NJHS. She replaces Jade Rogers at North Jackson and is the Chiefs’ third head coach in as many seasons.
Clark said her coaching tenure with the North Jackson program will begin with a fundamentals first approach.
“We’ll start with the basics and go from there,” she said. “We’ll see where we are with their skills and make sure we’ve got the basics down. We want to improve as we go and make sure we’re working hard.”
North Jackson will play in Class 4A Area 14 against DAR and Randolph.
Clark believes her season spent coaching at Scottsboro will benefit her during her second go-around coaching the sport.
“I know more of what to expect,” Clark said. “Hopefully we’ll go out and continue to improve as [the season] goes.”
