Top-10 finishes were aplenty for the Scottsboro indoor track and field teams on Wednesday.

The Scottsboro girls and SHS boys recorded a combined 22 Top-10 finishes during the Hump Day Octameet at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The meet featured eight of the state’s top track and field programs. Scottsboro, the lone Class 5A school in the meet, competed against 7As Hewitt-Trussville, Mountain Brook, Oak Mountain and Thompson and 6As Helena, Homewood and Pelham.

Scottsboro finished sixth (38 points) in the varsity boys division and seventh (18.50) in the varsity girls division.  Homewood (103) won the girls meet championship while Thompson (117) won the boys meet title. 

Both Scottsboro teams recorded 11 Top-10 finishes each.

Rex Green recorded the top finish for a Scottsboro athlete, winning the boys 800-meter run with a school-record time of 1:56.71. His time in the event currently has him ranked No. 1 in the 800 in Alabama and 12th nationally.

Scottsboro had five of the Top-10 runners in the race, as Hayden Judge finished third (1:58.46), Cooper Atkins fifth (2:01.04), Benson Atkins seventh (2:03.40) and Zach Avenel 10th (2:06.03).

Evan Hill finished second (9:44.92) and Ben Gossett seventh (10:17.15) in the 3200, Alex Cantrell was sixth in the triple jump (40 feet, 5.5 inches), Nathan Jones seventh in the shot put (39-10) and Logan Roberts ninth in the high jump (5-06). Cantrell, Brandon Cloud, Connor Massey and Elijah Moorman teamed up to finish ninth in the 4x200-meter relay (1:38.21).

Mabry Bonsall recorded the best finish for the SHS girls. The seventh-grader placed third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:39.95.

Alyssa Bell finished fourth (5 feet) and Caroline Sanders ninth (4-10) in the high jump while Anna Carlson was eighth (2:32.75) in the 800 and Isabella Noble was eighth (5:38.18) in the 1600. Lauren Paradise finished 10th (2:35.42) in the 800, Sanders was 10th (14-04) in the long jump, Emma Hancock 10th (28-6) in the triple jump and Emily Fortson 10th (27-02.5) in the shot put. 

Hancock, Sanders, Charlsi Henderson and Makayla Keel teamed up to finish ninth (1:56.88) in the 4x200-meter relay.

Scottsboro’s final scheduled meet of the regular-season, the Martin Luther King Classic, is set for Monday (8 a.m.).
