Scottsboro Swim Association swimmers enjoyed strong performances during SSA’s 13th annual Sprint Medal Meet sponsored by 1st Place Athletics
SSA swimmers posted 13 victories and set five new team records during the meet.
More than 260 swimmers from Madison, Sheffield, Decatur, Birmingham, Gadsden, Anniston and Tennessee teams Tullahoma, Manchester, Sewanee, Murfreesboro and LaVergne competed Saturday at the Scottsboro Rec*Com.
Fresh off an appearance at the Jr. National Cup, SSA’s Kyle Vosen swept the 15-18 Boys 50-yard Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 Fly and 100 Individual Medley.
Maggie Ella Robbins, who recently had a strong showing at the Age Group Sectionals in Greensboro North Carolina, took first in the 13-14 Girls 25 Freestyle, 50 Fly and 100 IM — all in team record time — and added a new record in the 50 Breaststroke, breaking a 13-year-old mark set by Allison Bivens.
Arlen Parr set a new record with a first place swim in the 9-10 Boys 200 Backstroke. Parr also took first in the 25 Freestyle. Izzy Nelson placed first in the 8-Under Girls 25 and 50 Freestyle. Rebekah Riddle took first in the 1650 Freestyle, and Lily Turlington won the 9-10 Girls 50 Breaststroke.
Scoring points with top-eight finishes were Morelia Calderon-Diaz, Baylie Giles, Anna Traylor, Les White, Amelia Armour, Brady Peek, Luke Armour, Cullen Roberts, Christian Swain, Paige Giles, Abby Ray, Diana Swain, Abram Peek, Hope Harrell, Jessica Vincent, Tony Pereira, Creed Wooden, Stephanie Bradbury, Bethany Dugan and Cheyenne Vincent.
Also swimming well were Shane Edwards, Destiny Lewis, Cora White, Christine Williams, Jasmine Hill, Chloe Stuart, Kimberly Calderon-Diaz, Noelle Lee, Jessica Simpson, Jackson Cuttie and Julia Arnold.
