Region play for all six Jackson County teams end this week with Scottsboro hosting Brewer in Class 5A Region 8, North Jackson hosting Randolph in 4A Region 7, Pisgah hosting Plainview in 3A Region 7, North Sand Mountain hosting Section in 2A Region 8 and Woodville visiting Decatur Heritage in 1A Region 7.
The week starts on Thursday night at 7 p.m. when Section travels up Alabama Highway 71 to Higdon to take on NSM. The teams were originally scheduled to play Friday but moved the game up a day because of the chance for inclement weather in Friday’s forecast.
NSM is locked in as the region’s No. 3 seed and will play at Addison in Round 1 of the Class 2A playoffs. Section (2-6, 2-4), meanwhile, is looking to finish the season strong after shutting out Asbury 35-0 a week ago.
All of Friday’s games kickoff at 7 p.m.
Scottsboro (6-2, 5-1) will in all likelihood be the No. 2 seed from Class 5A Region 8
Scottsboro will be the No. 2 seed if it wins or if Madison County (7-2, 5-1) defeats last-place Ardmore. Scottsboro and Madison County would both have to lose in order for the possibility of a three- or four-way tie for first place playing out along. If Scottsboro is the No. 2 seed, the Wildcats would host Russellville in Round 1 on Nov. 8.
Woodville (4-4, 3-2) enters the final week of region play with two ways to clinch a playoff berth. The Panthers would clinch with a win over region champion and sixth-ranked Decatur Heritage (9-0, 5-0) or with a Valley Head victory over Coosa Christian (1-6, 1-4). If Valley Head (5-3, 3-2) wins, it will be the No. 2 seed, Falkville will be the No. 3 seed and Woodville will be the No. 4 seed. If Valley Head loses, Woodville, Valley Head and R.A. Hubbard will finish tied for third in the region with AHSAA tiebreakers used to determine the final two playoff spots.
Pisgah (3-5, 1-4) enters its matchup against Plainview (3-5, 2-3) trying to keep its playoff hopes alive. If the Eagles win and New Hope lost to Brindlee Mountain, Pisgah would secure a playoff berth. If both Pisgah and New Hope win this week, those teams would finish in a three-way tie with Plainview for 3A Region 7’s final playoff spot. Plainview clinches a playoff berth with a win.
Meanwhile, North Jackson (1-7, 1-5) begins its season-ending two-game homestand Friday night when its host Randolph (2-6, 2-4).
