HIGDON — What the North Sand Mountain football team started back on Aug. 22 it finished Friday night.

After shutting out Cedar Bluff 20-0 in a two-quarter scrimmage in the preseason, NSM routed the undefeated Tigers 55-22 in a Class 2A Region 8 contest at NSM’s Lloyd Dobbins Field.

The Bison built a 28-6 halftime lead en route to a victory that head coach Keith Kirby said was the team’s most complete performance of the season thus far.

“It was definitely a step in the right direction. We’ve been knocked down a couple times but they’ve gotten up off the mat and showed what they’ve got,” said Kirby, whose team was coming off a 43-36 non-region loss at Sylvania. “The boys came out with a lot of emotion and played really well.”

NSM (4-2, 3-1) rushed for 278 yards and had 393 total yards.
