The North Sand Mountain golf team is headed to the next round with one postseason championship already on its resume.

NSM turned in a team score of 348 to win the Class 3A Boys Section 3 Golf Tournament at Twin Bridges Golf Course in Glencoe on Monday.

“We’ve been playing some really good golf here lately,” said NSM head coach Tracy Vest. “You never know about golf, but I like how we’re playing [going into the sub-state tournament].”

Hunter Vest was the sectional’s low medalist, shooting a 5-over par 77. The NSM junior was the only golfer to break 80 during the tournament.

NSM’s Tanner Stone and Noah Higdon both shot an 88 while Jordan Moon shot a 95 and Luke Maples shot a 102.

The Bison bested runner-up Glencoe (383) by 35 strokes, while Pleasant Valley (406) finished third and Ohatchee (426) was fourth. Each teams’ top-four individual scores counted toward its team total. All four teams advanced to play in the North 2 Sub-state Tournament at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe on Monday, May 7. The sub-state champion and runner-up and the top-two individual finishers not on the champion or runner-up teams’ rosters advance to play in the AHSAA Golf Championship’s Class 3A State Tournament May 14-15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals.

Pisgah (433) finished fifth in the team standings, but PHS golfer Aaron Shavers shot a 92 and advanced to play in the sub-state tournament as one of the sectional’s top-four finishers not on a sub-state qualifying team’s roster.

Class 1A-2A Section 3 — At the Goose Pond Colony Lake Course in Scottsboro, Section’s Colby Smith just missed securing a sub-state berth as an individual qualifier during Monday’s Class 1A-2A Section 3 Tournament.

Smith shot an 87, two shots back of the fourth individual qualifying spot.

Meanwhile, Donoho won the sectional’s team title while Westbrook Christian was second, Cedar Bluff third and Fyffe fourth.

Westbrook Christian Will Wethington was the low medalist with a 1-over par 73 while teammate Jackson Bowman shot a 2-over 74 and Valley Head’s Lane Ingram and Donoho’s Jacob Lecroy both shot a 3-over 75.
