The Scottsboro varsity boys cross country team stepped up in an out-of-state meet on Saturday.
The Wildcats posted a third-place finish in the Coach Wood Invitational, which was hosted by Mill Creek High School in Whitesburg, Georgia. The meet was run at the McIntosh Nature Preserve.
Scottsboro closed with a 188 points, bested only by fellow Alabama squad Huntsville (100) and St. Pius X of Atlanta (172). A total of 31 teams scored points in the event.
Cooper Atkins led the Scottsboro charge with an 11th-place finish (15:46.72). Benson Atkins followed in 28th-place (16:03.01) while Hayden Judge was 30th (16:09.47), Ben Gossett 55th (16:34.71) and Rex Green 70th (16:44.17) to round out Scottsboro’s five scoring runners.
Also for the Wildcats, Will Coleman finished 143rd (17:19.65) while Josue Vela Castillo was 172nd (17:35.96), Bobby Parsons 204th (17:45.80) and Brady Thomas 239th (18:05.02).
Scottsboro also had four runners compete in the Coach Wood Invitational Boys 5K Championship JV race. Jackson Howes led the Wildcats with a 46th-place finish (18:10.37) while Ridge Wells was 54th (18:15.82), Logan Roberts 112th (18:42.52) and Noah Bonsall 143rd (18:57.25).
Scottsboro finished 21st with 563 points in the Coach Wood Invitational Girls 5K Championship race.
Hannah Cloud was the Wildcats’ top finisher, placing 61st with a time of 19:57.37. McCall Chandler finished 70th (20:01.62) while Maddie Gossett was 88th (20:29.18), Amber Littles 203rd (21:56.97), Skylar Farr 220th (22:13.56), Kaylee Farr 223rd (22:17.52), Ava Duke 238th (22:40.70), Wylie Webb 247th (23:02.16), Emma Warren 259th (23:24.03).
Meanwhile, Scottsboro’s Emily Littles finished 68th (22:46.04) in the Girls 5K Championship JV race while Daniela Ola was 177th (24:35.99) and Annabelle Parrish 200th (25:07.72).
