Local cross country teams enjoyed some solid finishes in a mid-week race.

The Section varsity girls cross country team posted a sixth-place finish in the Randolph Cross Country Classic's Class 1A-4A Varsity Girls race on Tuesday.

The meet was held at UAH’s Eurocourse in Huntsville.

Whitesburg Christian posted a winning low score of 35 in the 5K race with runner-up St. Barnard posting 77 points. Section finished with a team score of 190 while North Jackson placed 13th (357) and Skyline finished 14th (361).

Jennifer Vega led the Section effort with a 10th-place finish (24:17.04). Madison Armstrong followed with a 26th-place finish (26:38.86) while Cindel Myers was 58th (29:42.46), Morgan Armstrong 63rd (29:51.87) and Carley Patterson 78th (31:48.96).

Delana Pierce finished 55th (29:34.53) and Emily Gilley placed 57th (29:40.73) for North Jackson while Saiyni Ramirez was 103rd (34:34.63), Melissa Cardinas 134th (40:30.41) and Heidi Hicks 142nd (45:47.57).

Katie Roach was Skyline’s top finisher, placing 49th (29:17.44). Joslyn Boatwright followed in 71st-place (31:14.16) while Gracie Putman placed 97th (33:27.81), Kiera Ivy 133rd (40:30.31) and Kayla Skipper 144th (49:21.69).

Varsity Boys

North Jackson posted an eighth-place finish while Skyline finished 12th in the Randolph Cross Country Classic's Class 1A-4A Varsity Boys 5K race.

North Jackson posted a team score of 264 while Skyline’s team score was 338. St. Bernard won the team title with a low score of 55, besting runner-up Fairview by 15 points and third-place DAR by 43 points.

North Jackson’s top finisher was Wences Ramirez, who placed 26th with a time of 20:28.59. Also for the Chiefs, Christian Coronado finished 43rd (21:42.17), Daniel Feigel 68th (23:23.93), Alex Roper 86th (24:28.59), Jay Yates 109th (26:44.27), Edgar Sanchez 113th (26:50.28), Will Rich 151st (31:56.63), Ryan Terry 155th (32:25.42) and Abraham Castro 173rd (37:01.69).

Nathan Olinger led the Skyline contingent with a 66th-place finish (23:05.14). Trever Saint finished 70th (23:30.78), Bryant Kennamer 72nd (23:43.15), Tristan Roach 112th (26:48.63), Scott York 115th (27:06.38), Kordell Talley 117th (27:22.50) and Karson Treece 144th (30:07.30).

Running as individuals, Section’s Ethan Lemieux finished 71st (23:38.12) and Woodville’s Russell Roswal was 57th (32:47.51). 

Junior varsity

Section finished 17th in the junior varsity boys 2-mile race team standings.

Giovannay Vega finished 181st (18:52.45) for Section while William Holcomb was 193rd (19:53.68), Conway Elsass 211th (25:04.54), Draven Newsom 214th (26:45.83) and Mason Blackerby 219th (33:27.98).

Running as an individual in the junior varsity girls 2-mile race, Woodville’s Camila Prado finished 110th (21:48.92) while Section’s JoAnna Newsom was 113th (22:17.82), Elizabeth Lemieux 137th (25:40.25) and Savannah Shoemaker 143rd (30:45.85).
