There is another intra-Jackson County matchup now on the 2020 high school football schedule.
North Sand Mountain and Woodville have agreed to play in Week 1 on Aug. 28 at Lloyd Dobbins Field in Higdon.
The game fills a vacancy on both teams’ schedules. Woodville previously had a bye that week while NSM lost its originally Week 1 opponent ,state-line rival Dade County (Ga.), recently when the start of high school football in Georgia was delayed two weeks.
“We’re glad to get that game filled and get to play somebody close by,” said NSM head coach Keith Kirby. “Woodville’s got a good football team, been a perennial playoff team that last four or five years.”
It will be the third all-time meeting between Woodville and NSM and the first since 2007. NSM leads the series 2-0.
The game means new Woodville head coach Tyler Vann will take on his alma mater in his second game leading the Panthers, who open the season Aug. 21 at home against Ider.
Vann was a three-sport standout and an all-state honorable mention quarterback for NSM from 2009-12, passing for 5,616 yards and 54 touchdowns over his final three seasons. He lead the Bison to a 17-5 record and two playoff appearances during his junior and senior seasons.
“It’s going to be weird standing on that other sideline,” Vann said. “We needed another game, and this worked out perfectly for us. Our kids were excited when they found. It’s going to be fun.”
