Strong finishes

Ben Gossett's four Top-10 finishes help Scottsboro post a third-place team finish in the Bob Jones Invitational on Tuesday.

 

The Scottsboro swim teams collected a pair of Top-10 finishes on Tuesday.

The SHS boys finished third while the SHS girls finished seventh in the Bob Jones Invitational at Dublin Park in Madison.

Kyle Vosen, Tony Pereira and Ben Gossett had four top-10 finishes each to lead Scottsboro in the varsity boys division. The Class 5A Wildcats totaled 60, finishing behind only 7A teams James Clemens (149) and runner-up Bob Jones (129).

Vosen won the 200-yard Individual Medley — his time of 1:59.59 was nine seconds faster than the second-place finisher — and finished second in the 100 Freestyle (49.86 seconds). Vosen was also part of the Scottsboro’s fourth-place finishing 200 Medley Relay team (1:54.09) with Gossett, Pereira and John Dalton Sanders and its 200 Freestyle Relay team (5:16.31) with Gossett, Pereira and Tanner Gossett.

Pereira had third-place finish in the 100 Backstroke (1:02.24) and a fourth-place finish in the 50 Freestyle (24.11) while Ben Gossett had ninth-place finish in the 200 Individual Medley (2:22.93) and the 50 Freestyle (25.86). 

Will Rogers finished eighth in the 100Breastroke (1:20.94) and 11th in the 200 Freestyle (2:25.57). The Wildcats’ also got a sixth-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay from the team of Rogers, Tanner Gossett, Jake Vance and Cole Bellomy.

Tanner Gossett (1:28.35), Bellomy (1:29.65) and Vance (1:50.44) finished 13th, 17th and 21st respectively in the 100 Breaststroke while Sanders finished 20th (1:11.13) and Tanner Gossett 22nd (1:12.95) in the 100-yeard Freestyle. Bellomy finished 21st (29.73) in the 50 Freestyle while Sanders was 25th (30.29) and Vance 37th (39.48).

Meanwhile, Scottsboro finished seventh in the varsity girls division.

Olyvia Stone had the top individual finish for the Scottsboro girls, placing fifth (2:33.66) in the 200 Individual Medley. She also teamed with Cheyenne Vincent, Jessica Vincent and Kathryn Sanders to finish fifth (1:53.11) in the 500 Freestyle Relay and with Kathryn Sanders, Jessica Vincent and Claire Megehee and to place eighth (2:11.50)  in the 200 Medley Relay. 

Jessica Vincent also notched a seventh-place finish (6:25.20) in the 500 Freestyle and a 14th-place finish in the 50 Freestyle (28.65) while Kathryn Sanders was seventh (1:10.84) and Megehee was eighth (1:11.29) in the 100 Butterfly. Sanders also finished 16th in the 50 Freestyle (29.03). Cheyenne Vincent finished 10th in the 200 Freestyle (2:21.62) and 11th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:21.88) while Bailey McLaughlin was 18th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:50.21) and 19th in the 100 Backstroke (1:22.22). 

Sarah Vance finished 20th in the 100 Backstroke (1:56.24) and 32nd in the 100 Freestyle (1:19.59) while Paige Megehee was 20th (1:24.12) and Maddy Childress was 23rd (1:30.12) in the 100 Backstroke while Claire Megehee was 25th in the 100 Freestyle (1:07.45) while Kaitlin Rossmeier was 26th (31.97) and Childress 27th (32.58) in the 500 Freestyle.

Clarie Megehee, Paige Megehee, Rossmeier and Cheyenne Vincent teamed up for an eighth-place finish in the 400 Freestyle (4:54.90) while Claire Megehee, Paige Megehee, Sarah Vance and McLaughlin teamed up for a 13th-place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay (2:14.36).
