Three Scottsboro and two North Jackson wrestlers will compete today for state championships.
They advanced to their weight class division’s state title matches during the semifinal round of the AHSAA Class 1A-5A State Wrestling Championships on Friday.
The state championship matches begin today at 11:30 a.m. at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
Scottsboro’s John McAlpin (45-4) wrestles Hayden’s Landon Castleberry (53-2) in the 126-pound state title match looking to avenge last week’s loss to Castleberry in the North sectional final.
Scottsboro’s Kolton Clark (50-2) wrestles Westminster Christian’s Ethan Pippin (44-4) in the 170 state final while Bradford Womack (28-6) wrestles Mortimer Jordan’s Michael Barnes (46-10) in the 285 state final. Both matches are North sectional finals rematches.
North Jackson’s Tanner Woodall (29-2) wrestles Tallasee’s Andy Baker in the 195 state final while Travis Woodall (30-4) wrestles Weaver’s Sean Caleb Allison (56-2) in the 220 state final.
In the team standings, Scottsboro finished Friday'’s championship semifinal round in second place, trailing leader Arab (114 points) by only four points.
Both had teams left to wrestle in Friday night's consolation rounds.
The consolation finals are today starting at 9 a.m.
