Josh Thompson (12) was one of six Woodville players named to the Class 1A All-Region Football Team.

The Woodville football team surged late in the 2019 season to secure yet another playoff berth.

And now several of the players who helped the Panthers reach the postseason have been recognized for their efforts in achieving that goal.

A total of six Woodville players have been selected to the 2019 Class 1A All-Region 7 Football Team.

The team was put together by the region’s seven head coaches. The region consisted of champion Decatur Heritage, runner-up Valley Head, third-place Falkville, fourth-place Woodville, fifth-place R.A. Hubbard, sixth-place Coosa Christian and seventh-place Gaylesville.

Woodville was represented on the all-region team by seniors Da’Vion Johnson, J.T. Miller and Zac Thompson and juniors Jackson Peek, Josh Thompson and Carlos Torres.

Peek, a quarterback/safety, led the Panthers in rushing this season with 1,170 yards and 17 touchdowns on 208 carries. He also completed 21 of 60 pass attempts for 402 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Peek was Woodville’s second leading tackler with 55 stops while also recording one interception and one fumble recovery.

Johnson, a running back/defensive back, ran for 905 yards and eight touchdowns on 129 carries while catching 10 passes for 226 yards and six touchdowns. Johnson, who also had two kickoff return touchdowns this season, had 28 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Josh Thompson, a fullback/linebacker, rushed for 418 yards and two touchdowns on 90 carries on offense while recording 30 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Torres, a linebacker/offensive lineman, was Woodville’s leading tackler with 78 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Zac Thompson, a linebacker/tight end, finished with 41 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense and caught one touchdown pass on offense while offensive/defensive lineman J.T. Miller recorded 28 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Valley Head quarterback Jordan Burt and Coosa Christian wide receiver Evan Delp were selected the 1A Region 7 Co-Offensive MVPs while Decatur Heritage linebacker Carter Sample was the Defensive MVP. Decatur Heritage coach Steve Meeks was named the region’s Coach of the Year.
